ANIPLA INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS
50° ANNIVERSARY 1956-2006

METHODOLOGIES FOR
EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES IN AUTOMATION

Rome - University "La Sapienza" - November 13-15, 2006

ANIPLA, the Italian National Association for Automation, is proud to announce that its first International Congress is ready, to celebrate, in 2006, the 50° anniversary of its foundation.

Its annual Congress traditionally represents an effective opportunity for researchers, designers, practitioners and technology providers, active in the industrial automation field, to meet and share experiences.

As a matter of fact, the industrial production systems are experiencing an increasing trend towards more and more dynamic and complex behaviour, in order to face new requirements necessary to react to the upcoming dramatic changes in technological, environmental, economic, and social fields.
Consequently, a scientific insight is mandatory to correctly understand the methodologies that master the emerging systems.

These are the main motivations to organize this 50° congress with a truly international participation.
In particular, the International Congress 2006 will focus not only on the numerous new ICT technologies for automation, developed in Europe and in the world, but also on how the results of the technical developments should be mastered by the control engineer through the in-depth knowledge of the most suitable methodologies for analysis and design.

Three international plenary talks open the congress each day: Dr. B. Lepape, European Commission DG INFSO/G5, Bruxelles, Dr. G. Visentin, European Space research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) of ESA, Noordwijk, The Netherlands, and Prof. K.-E. Arzen, University of Lund, Sweden.

A total of 18 sessions have been organized in three different rooms each day, with an overall number of 98 contributions from 12 different countries. Last but not least, an interesting tutorial on object-oriented simulation tools, Modelica and OpenModelica, has been organized by Prof. Peter Fritzson, from Linköping University, Sweden, without additional costs for participants.

The Congress has the technical co-sponsorship of 4 relevant IEEE Societies: Control System Society, Robotics and Automation, Instrumentation and Measurement Society, Industrial Electronics Society. We have also 7 important industrial co-sponsorship: ABB, Ascon S.p.A, IPLOM, Pabadis’Promise, Rockwell Automation, Sistemi Avanzati Elettronici, The MathWorks.

The Congress is scheduled in Rome, “La Sapienza” University, on three days, 13th, 14th, 15th November. The International Congress will take place in the historical buildings of the Faculty of Engineering, inside the ancient “Chiostro”. Close to the Faculty is the church San Pietro in Vincoli, where the famous Michelangelo’s sculpture Moses and Saint Peter’s Chains are preserved. It is situated on the Colle Oppio in the archaeological area of Domus Aurea, in the neighborhood of some of major historical ruins of ancient Rome: the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Palatino and several early Christian basilicas.
The organization of this “historical” event includes lunches and coffee breaks, offered directly in the “Chiostro”, while the congress banquet will be served in the marvelous rooms of the Brancaccio Palace. A special visit to Musei Capitolini has also been organized both in English and Italian.

Concluding, we have to really thank all the contributors to what is expected to be one of the most excellent event in Italian technical and scientific automation world, and also thank all those who have worked hard for the successful organization of this event.
